Stop the Lawsuit petition has topped 8,000 signatures! Let's keep it going!
Many of you signed the stop the lawsuit petition after the email we sent you Oct. 13, and the total has now surpassed 8,000 signatures! Thank YOU! Let's keep the momentum going. If you haven't signed, please consider doing so. Also, please share it with teachers, parents, neighbors, friends, relatives - anybody you can think of who supports Step Up For Students and the tax credit scholarships!
The petition was created by Sherri Martin, a Step Up scholarship parent, in response to the lawsuit that the Florida teachers union, Florida School Boards Association and others filed Aug. 28 to end the scholarship program. Our lawyers tell us there is no reason for current scholarship parents to worry, because the state has a strong defense and this lawsuit is likely to take years to move through the courts.
But the petition is still a great way to send a message. It tells lawmakers, reporters, the public and everyone else how important this program is to the nearly 70,000 students it will serve this year. Please sign the petition to show your support. It only takes a minute! And please pass it on!
One final note: At least a couple of schools have posted notes about the petition on to their web sites. We think this is a great way to get the word out. If you're interested, check out these examples from John Paul II Catholic High School in Tallahassee and Calvary Christian Academy & Preschool in Fort Walton Beach. Thanks for everything you do every day to help kids!
Thanks so much,
